Wacky Wednesday and Thriving Thursday

The K and 1st grade teachers had to attend a meeting yesterday morning so Alexee's mom was brave enough to stay with my friends while I was across the hall. It sounds like and looked like they all had a great time!

Mr. Nicholas was the teacher for the day and kept the morning routine right on track.

Zachary's mom even stooped by to help out.

They learned about the letter Qq yesterday and brainstormed some q words.
I came back to the room after lunch to work on making 2-digit numbers with my friends. They did a great job with that!

After lunch we learned about groundhogs. See if your kiddo knows another name for a groundhog. Hint...it can whistle!

During math, we practiced building and reading 2-digit numbers. They're getting better at it!

Lezlie and John did a great job of even putting the numbers in order!

All of the partners worked great together!

We even reviewed objects that were magnetic and not magnetic.

Today we reviewed how to write the q. Did you know that q and u are married? So q never goes anywhere without u! Check out John writing the word "question"!

This was our class quilt of qu words that they drew. I've got some talented artists!

Here is our Frosty that I finally remembered to take a pic of! SHE was completely constructed by the class. I love it!

During math, we practiced building 2-digit numbers again.

They're getting more fluent at reading the numbers!

This afternoon was the Kids with Character assembly for the December (Compassion) and January (Perseverance) kids. Aubriana, Nolan, Lezlie, and Wes were chosen to go to the assembly.

I'm so proud of all my friends!

Miss Rachel was our teacher for the day. Today was rainy so I got to introduce my rainy song to them. Rachel did a great job spelling "rainy" while the class sang the song!

During writing, we learned about 4-part sentences (who, action, what/where, when). My sweet friends chose to write about me today.

My sweet friends chose to write about me today. It says "Mrs. Dees hopped outside yesterday."

Aubriana was our Star Music student today. And these cuties are proudly showing off their citizenship or perfect attendance awards that they earned for the 2nd nine weeks. All of my fiends work so hard, so I'm hoping to have my entire class in this picture for the third nine weeks!

Addition, syllables, categorizing, and more addition

This week has been crazy busy, so I've fallen a little behind on blogging and am going to catch up on the past few days.

Since we've been working on addition, we did an addition word problem on Thursday. I love how John used his bears and drew exactly what he was thinking!

On Friday, we discovered how many syllables are in some January words. Mr. Justin was our teacher and he did a fantastic job of helping us figure out the beats of the words.

We also explored some V words. The kiddos make some pretty cute Vs!

During our time with Mrs. Jenkins, they learned about classifying. She classified the group by their shoes. This group above had on tennis shoes. Rachel, though, patiently waited to figure out where her Crocs belonged.

In math, we played an addition game. The kids loved it!

Then they practiced writing some number sentences.

Phew! We made it through a week! Hope everyone gets some rest this weekend!

It's so hard to be out for a couple of days, but even harder when you have to be out with a sick baby. There's nothing fun about watching your precious ones run fever! But it sounds like my Kinders were in FABULOUS hands while I was gone! I didn't have to worry about what my sweet Kinders were doing.

Mrs. Hardin sent me this pic yesterday of her class showing ways of how to make 10. Roberts truly has the best Kindergarten team of teachers!

As soon as I turned on the tv this morning, "Guess who" I saw first thing?!?! Yep! That's our very own Justin Guess on Sully's Heroes. He scored 8 baskets this past weekend. Wow!

Alexee's mom sent me this pic of Alexee climbing Pinnacle with her family. She told her mom that she's definitely building stamina. Yeah! My teaching has been applied to the real-world! Ha!

Today we talked about how many syllables we had in our names. Can you believe that me (Erin) and Aaron have the same number of syllables? ;)

We discovered that most of us have only two syllables in our name. But then we found out that my daughter's name (Mary Elizabeth) wouldn't even fit on this hand!

Snow much fun=a long post of pics!

This has been a crazy week with trying to get back into a routine, dismissing early for sleet on Tuesday, and lots of sick kiddos! So I'm just going to post pics from the entire week for y'all to enjoy.

After voting on if they have ever built a snowman, a few of my kiddos told me that they have never built a snowman so I thought we could "build" one inside together. They did a great job with teamwork and taking turns with explaining how to build a snowman during group writing. This was a great use of transitional words! I completely forgot to take a pic of "Frosty" so I'll be sure to do that on Tuesday!

Aaron was the Music Super Star on Monday. Way to go! I wonder if i would ever get to be the star if I we're in Mrs. Pollard's class considering that I can't carry a tune evn though I love to sing.

Tuesday was our crazy weather day! We were in school long enough to take our class pic and go to lunch. In between those two things, I let the kiddos sit in the Flex Space and watch the snow/sleet. I thought it was a perfect time to read my new free book from Scholastic called It's Snowing! We learned what sleet was and what a blizzard was. According to one of my Kinder friends from Mrs. Shelton's class, a blizzard is a lizard stuck in the snow. Gotta love 'em!!!

Since we'll be out on Monday for Martin Luther King Day, we did a few activities this week to learn about him. We even made these cute portraits of MLK. I just LOVE how they turned out! They even had to do a sentence scramble to make the caption say "Dr. King had a very important dream." I was very impressed that most of them got it right without my help!

Mrs. Stevenson had a Watch Dog Dad today. He offered to bring his unicycle and show us this special talent. The kids were totally impressed as was I!

YouTube Video

This week we learned about the letters W and L. Check out all of those W words that we found in our Alphafriend song!

Look at what sweet Chloe made me! I love anything Razorbacks and it looks great hang inning up in the classroom! Do you see the chart behind us? We learned more about addition this week. We talked about what it means {joinin, all together, in all}, so you can use these words at home or when you're shopping with them.

On Friday, we built stamina with writing. I set the timer for 5 minutes to see how many words they could write. They were supposed to only write words that they could spell correctly. Although there were some misspelled words, I was still impressed with their hard work! I'm going to do it next week to see how they've improved. You can do this with them at home as well!

The kids love when Mrs. Jenkins comes in on Fridays! They've been reminding me all week that shell be coming on Friday. She talked about MLK and about liking yourself. Then they got to draw a picture of something that they like about themselves.

Aubriana added some great color details to hers!

I love this one! Rachel said that she likes her molars because they are coming in. Ha!

And here's a pic of Zachary showing us how to add marshmallows to our cups of hot chocolate. They all did a pretty good job with our addition story problem! This is also something else you can work on at home by having them count/sort/add different objects.

I hope y'all have a fantastically long weekend!!! And I hope that everyone gets some rest and feels better soon!

After I got home, I realized that we were just too busy to pose for pics today. Ha!

We learned about the -ug word family today. Aaron did a good job of building the ch blend to make the word chug.

These two girls were so cute all day today with their BFF necklaces! Moms (or dads...ha!), do you remember having these back in the day?

I will be out tomorrow for personal reasons, but I hope that you all have a fabulous weekend!
