Mystery Readers

We started our Friday Mystery Readers back in November and have enjoyed every visitor that we've had! They especially love the clues and trying to figure out who it will be! If you haven't signed up for a date and would still like to be a Mystery Reader, I have plenty of available dates!
Ms. Gardner, the PE teacher, really stumped them with her clues!
Mrs. Adams has already been twice! She first read I Know an Old Lady who Swallowed a Pie at Thanksgiving. Then she read If You Take a Mouse to the Movies. Abby even helped us visualize the story by acting it out. I think you'll need to be looking for Abby's name in celebrity news in a few years when she becomes a famous actor! :)

We also had Anne's mom read to us one week. Sadly, my pictures didn't turn out for some reason.

Thank you to all of my volunteers!!!!!

Our research papers are complete!!!

I am so proud of these kids! They recently completed their first research paper about animals for the year! I don't think I had to do a research paper until Jr. high! But they handled it so well! They searched for information by reading non-fiction books, reading magazines, and even surfing the web!!! After all of their hard work, they all presented their findings about their animal to the rest of the class. We learned so much about all sorts of animals. Way to go, Team Dees! Keep up the hard work!

We exposed our lungs

We recently learned about all of our body systems in Science. For the respiratory system, we diagrammed our lungs so we could show where they are on our body. As you can see, I have a lot of "characters" on my team this year! Thanks, Mrs. Lashbrook, for cutting all 22 sacks for us!

Book Character Day

November has been a busy month! We've had a lot of fun all month long. We recently had our 1st Book Character Day, which was a blast! It was fun to watch the parad of the entire school so we could see everyone's costume and then be part of the parade to show off our costumes.

We were greeted first by the music teachers and our Flag Line.

Our very own costume winner (aka Sara, aka "Bad Kitty") was part of the Flag Line.

I was so proud of all of my creative kids and their costumes!

Our Partners in Education were nice enough to come by and judge the cosutmes.

They even brought some magic tricks with them!

Teamwork in Gold Flats and Exploring with Raisins?

I'm so happy to have a team that actually displays teamwork with everyone! A few months ago, we took a "trip" to Gold Flats where we had to establish rules for the town. I'm proud to say that everyone worked hard to decide on fair rules for everyone to follow.
Some of the citizens of Gold Flats had a dispute over some gold.

They had to present their cases to the jury.

The jury was very fair and listened very intently to all cases.
With all the work that these smart thinkers do all the time, they need some time to just explore with food. But, of course, I had to throw in a math lesson with it by practicing dividing with raisins. It's so fun to see how everyone has a different process of thinking just to get to the same answer, even when just dividing out food!

ViPS Reading Day

Today was ViPS Reading Day at school. Ms. Pat Kumpuris came to read a classic - The Velveteen Rabbit to our class. Most of them said that they had never read the story, so it was extra special to them. After Ms. Pat read the book, she donated it along with a stuffed bunny to our "Stuff the Sleigh" drive.

A few helpful tidbits

I just added a few helpful LEARNING websites to the side of my blog. The kids (as are some parents)are always asking me for some fun game websites. Please take a look at them and let your kids have fun while playing on the computer. :)

Also, Team Dees is in 3rd place with recycling ink cartridges, cell phones, and digital cameras. I have an "inside source" that told me that we are very close to 2nd place! We have a few more weeks, so I know we can do it! If you have any of these items that you're about to discard at your office or have stuck in your drawers at home, please put my name on them and send them with your child.

Red Ribbon Week/Dr. Roberts's Birthday Bash

We had fun this week by celebrating Red Ribbon Week and ending it with a birthday bash for Dr. Roberts. I wish I had taken more pictures of these little cuties, though! We booted out drugs on Monday by wearing boots, shaded out drugs on Tuesday with our cool sunglasses, teamed up against drugs on Wednesday by wearing our favorite team shirts, put a cap on drugs on Thursday with hats, and wore red to fight against drug abuse on Friday.
I thought a sports door would be perfect for our team. Thanks, Mrs. Dunkum, for your help!!!

My team has BEGGED me to wear my Hog hat all year, so I thought Hat Day was fitting for that!
The kids had fun performing "Thriller" for Dr. Roberts along with a special birthday song for him.

Fall weather fun this week

Don't forget that the Fall Carnival is this Thursday! The best part about it is that it's FREE!!! We'll have lots of fun and games all throughout the building, so please plan on coming.

Also, fundraiser orders are due this Wednesday, October 13th! Please make sure that your child gets credit for the items they sold so they can have a chance to go to the Mega Party. I know they won't want to miss it.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to email or call me.

What a GRAND day!

We had such a fun morning with Grandparents Day!

We enjoyed some delicious muffins and hanging out in the Dining Room.

I loved getting to meet all of the grandparents!

It was so fun to see all of the love!

Then we headed to our Flex Space to take pictures and show off the "stadium".

Thank you to everyone that came.

Books, grandparents, oh my!

Don't forget that the Book Fair and Grandparent's Day is this week!

The Book Fair is in the Pre-K wing and is filled with tons of FABULOUS new books (Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Ramona and Beezus, and many more)!

Also, third grade will be hosting Grandparent's Day on Thursday from 9-10:45. Please make plans to send your child's grandparent or "special someone" to join us that day!

1st Day of School

I know this is old news already, but I have to get caught up. The first day of school was August 19th...and boy, what an exciting day! I love traditions and I love that we got to be the first to experience the first day here at Don Roberts Elementary! Not many people get to say that about their school. We had a great time getting to know each other and playing some fun icebreaker games as a team. This was especially helpful since we were all new to a brand new school!

Our team works really well with each other. They are helpful and listen to each others thoughts.

Meet Representative Carter

The team chose Carter to be their Class Representative. He did a great job saying his speech in front of the entire 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes! His slogan was: "Be smarter, vote Carter! I'll work harder for our school." Don't you love it? I think Team Dees will have great representation at our Student Council meetings.

Welcome to Team Dees!

I am so excited to welcome you all to Team Dees' blog! I personally love to write and have 2 other blogs that I "bore" my family with, so I'm excited to keep you all updated with what's happening in your child's life at school.

Even though it's just been a few weeks, I already L-O-V-E my team (class) and am so happy about working at Roberts Elementary! Please check here often to see what's going on in the world of Team Dees.
