A terrific Tuesday

We've been working hard with short vowel sounds the past few weeks. John helped us find some short vowel word families.

The girls in this reading group were excited to read a fairy tale about a chrysalis! They were so into the book!

Career Day

We had a fun filled morning with Career Day! Before we headed outside for all of the trucks, Emilio helped us count down the days that we have left of school. Ask your kiddo if they remember how many days are left. They did a great job with counting backwards too, btw!

My kiddos did a fabulous job with patiently waiting for our turn to se the Entergy truck!

The kids loved getting to ask important questions about his job like what time does he eat lunch, what does he eat for lunch, and can he reach the roof or God using his bucket.😃

Then we got to meet with the guys from Nabholz and hear about construction. These guys built our school so they gave us a lot of info about our school! James asked for a few helpers to try to draw a straight line without any tools, then he showed us how to use a chalk line to draw a straight line.

And, of course, they all loved getting to watch the excavator in action!

After that, we went back inside to listen to Emilio's mom tell us about medical research and germs. They were full of questions and even gave their own important info about germs.

I wish I had videoed the kids faces this morning when they saw that their sprouts had actually grown!

Zachary's sprouts had grown the most. Wow!

It looks like I just followed Zachary around all day with the camera, but I promise I didn't! However we learned about the tricky "sk" blend today and learned another VERY important word for the boys to spell..."Skylander"! And Zachary just so happened to have a Skylander shirt on to show me what these boys are always writing/talking about!

I think my most favorite time of the day is tight after lunch when the kids get to free write about anything they want. Zachary wrote this about me today. It says "I like Mrs. Dees because she is the best teacher ever. She likes chocolate." Didn't you know that is a major requirement for being a good teacher? Ha!

We started learning about Earth Day today. We watched this cute video to introduce the kiddos to the whole concept of the 3 Rs and helping our Earth. We even figured out during Math that Earth Day is only 14 days away. Start thinking about your Earth .day project!

Since the upper grades are testing this week, we aren't going to our pullouts. This is highly disappointing for the kids; however, they LOVE it when I let them got to math centers.

Zachary was showing some great addition strategies to Breanna!

You gotta love technology!

Aubriana and John worked great together with sorting double digits.

Every time Wes made a match, he would blind everyone with is winning smile! I love it!

Thrilling Thursday and fantastic Friday

Thursday was a great day! We started off the day by finding "th" words in our April song.

Then we learned the "tr" blend. We learned how to correctly spell a VERY important "tr" word that shows up in our writing a lot...Transformers!

Since we learned that tree has the "tr" blend and we are talking about plants in Science, they painted trees and showed all of the parts including roots. I have serious artists in my class! Later that day we worked on labeling the parts of the tree.

For snack we had letter/number crackers. They had fun getting to sort them in ABC/123 order before eating them, too!

We received another Scholastic box on Thursday! Seriously I don't know who gets more excited about these...me or the kids! They love the fact that every time someone orders a book online, I get another cool book for our class. So it's like we all are getting something! These are all of the books that I received from this order...thank you for ordering! And I know that St. Patrick's Day has already come and gone, but the kids were still excited about Leprechaun books! ;)

Here's why I didn't they to blog on Thursday. My dad (aka Dandy) and my little Ben Ben got to model for the Easter Seals Fashion Show. I was so proud of my my two handsome men!

On Friday, we started the day off by "winning PRize ribbons" since we learned about the "pr" blend.

Mrs. Jenkins came in Friday afternoon and talked about animals. They get soooo excited when she comes in!

Oscar (the almost) Butterfly was one of the books that Emilio received from Scholastic. He was so nice to share this book with us! It was a great read considering we're getting ready to talk about butterflies in Science!

Speaking of Science...we observed our seeds today. Some of the kids were so excited to be the first ones to have sprouts actually growing!

I hope y'all enjoyed the BEAUTIFUL weather today! We sure did while hanging out at the zoo today!

Testing and writing opinions

The Kinders worked on a writing prompt this morning. Wow! They've come a long ways since the beginning of the year!!!

We checked on our plant this morning and made predictions as to when we would see some sprouts. I heard anywhere from 3 days to 130 days....can't wait to see who's right!

We did some word work in reading groups and really focused on writing the sounds we could hear. You can reemphasize that at home by reminding them to streeeeeetch out the word.

Elisa brought this awesome new Pete the Cat book to share with us today. We loved it! And it will definitely be making it on my next Scholastic order!!!

We wrote our opinion about Pete after I read the story. Most of us agreed that Pete the Cat was a nice friend because he shared his HUGE sandwich with all of his friends.

I hope y'all are staying warm tonight! Boy this has been hard trying to teach the kids that if gets warmer in the Spring! Ha!

All about flowers

In the spirit of testing weeks for the upper grades, we gave the Kinders a unit test in Literacy this morning. This will show their progression from the beginning of school.

In Science we are learning about plants. So we got to plant Alfalfa seeds today. I'm impressed with how they already knew all of the steps of planting and they knew what materials they needed! Let's just see how impressive our planting skills are in the days to come. ;)

During writing, we worked on labeling the parts of a flower. They did a great job of creating all of the pieces and correctly labeling our class flower! They said that we made a violet by the way.

During Math, we worked on measurement and identifying objects that were longer and shorter than they are. They all crowded around me to say that I am longer than they are. Ha! So I told them to walk around the room to find different objects shorter or longer than them. Great job!

Meanness and Nicholas were the PE All Stars today. Whoop! Whoop!

Short e's, grammar practice and measurement

What a beautiful day! We started the day off with short e practice. Miss Elisa did a great job helping us, too!

John did a great job with finding and highlighting our new sight word "have".

I snapped this pic during center time. They were so cute reading!

We practiced the confusing subject-verb agreement rule during writing. They did a wonderful job with this confusing rule!

Then we reviewed measurement during math. We practiced ordering objects from largest to smallest, then we practiced measuring objects with snap cubes.

Elisa was our Music star for the day. Way to go!
