Finally it's Friday, let the week begin...

If you're a country music fan, then you probably remember hearing this song every Friday on KSSN "back in the day". I think this was my first full week in the class since October and wow! We've been busy!

First off, can you believe where we found Snowflake this morning? She got tangled up in some tape after she climbed up in the chairs and tried she to hang up my "?" chart. Crazy girl!

The kids needed to get out their wiggles early this morning, so we sang the Friday song.

I LOVE watching them sing and dance!

Wes really gets into it! Ha! Have they shown you the Feiday dance yet?

We played Word Family BINGO again today with new words. I've learned a lot from this game...er...uhhh...skill by watching them!

Wes and Lezlie were so excited to get to play BINGO today!

This afternoon we learned about some other countries that celebrate holidays. Did you know that in Africa, Christmas is celebrated during the Summer? They have picnics during this time. I would love that!

We also learned about Australia. We found out that sometimes that Santa arrives on a surfboard...so we had to surf with him in our class. Totally tubular!

Kowabunga dude!

After learning about holidays is the USA, Bethlehem, Africa, and Australia, we voted on which place we liked learning about the best. Of course, most of my Kinders voted for Australia because of the surfing! Avaleigh voted for the USA and I voted for Africa because I LOVE picnics!

I hope y'all have a spectacular weekend!

It's all about the technology!

Look who was monkeying around in our classroom today! Snowflake had a great view of everyone from the flagpole. No one thought she was fake today...phew!
We had a visit from some 2nd graders this morning to perform a Gingerbread Man reader's theater. How perfect was that since we've been studying gingerbread men all week?

The Gingerbread Man is in the orange shirt. I can see an Oscar in his future!

We worked on building -ed words again today. They did great by adding some blends as well, like "shred" and "shed"!

During Centers time today, the kids were soooo quiet that I was able to sneak around and snap pics of them. I LOVED how Nicholas and Chloe were being so cooperative while playing the Shape Race game!

I don't know why this is turned...grr!!! But the kids were so excited to see the reindeer cam today because there was an elf there! Zachary has been great with reminding me to checkin on the reindeer cam at 10:00 everyday. :)
Again, I have NO clue why these pics are turned becuase they aren't on my computer!!! But I had to share with you all that Santa came early in my classroom a few weeks ago!!! I've been working on trying to get more iPads in my classroom as these are FABULOUS for my little friends to learn their basic reading/writing skills. A few weeks ago, I magically had 4 new mini iPads appear in my classroom from one of Santa's elves!!!
Adam worked on correctly writing his alphabet.

Aubriana got to listen to the letter sounds and practice writing them.

I love this sweet pic of Emilio and Rachel listening to another version of The Gingerbread Man.

Jessica did a great job with our word scavenger during Write Around the Room time. She's been out for a few days, but quickly picked up on the fun word hunt.

During Writing Workshop, we worked on identifying complete sentences. I think they're starting to get the hang of finding them!

Avaleigh was really concentrating! :)

I got this Gingerbread "happy" from our sweet aide, Mrs. Diggs, a few days ago. I had to share the Gingerbread cookies with my sweet Kinders since we've been talking about it all week.
Most of them liked their cookie!

After they took one bite, we graphed to see where everyone took their first bite. Most of them followed the expression of "Off with his head!" Zachary, however, got rid of the head and arm!

We learned that more people ate the head first rather than the arm or leg. Then they realized that we could write a new number sentence of 15>4>2. Wow!

In Social Studies this month, we're learning about holiday traditions around the world. Today we talked about Christmas in the US and talked about some of the different traditions that we all do. Adam did a great job of drawing some presents to show us that his family exchanges presents during Christmas.

In math, we found objects that were heavier and lighter than our water bottles.

The kids got really clever with this!

Meet Snowflake!

We had a visit from our elf this morning! Since we didn't get to name her yesterday due to time, she left us a note this morning. My cute little friends didn't realize that school elves also have teacher writing. ;) I must say that I was very impressed with the names that were suggested for this stylish little elf! However, Snowflake clearly was a fitting name her.

Miss Alexee was our teacher for the day and did a wonderful job with helping us read our December song.

She also helped us figure out how to add "partly" to describe our partly cloudy weather.

This afternoon we learned all about electricity. We learned where electricity can be found and how hazardous it can be. I'm sure you'll be hearing about some of the dangers with electricity at your home in the next few days so be careful! ;)

I've had many of you ask me about the criteria for Eagles of Excellence. I have posted it on here so you can review it with your child and encourage them to try to do the right thing at all times for next month.

A terrific Tuesday

Mr. Emilio was our teacher for the day. He brought a feather pen to show us this morning. I thought that was perfect since we were talking about how light feathers were just yesterday! The kids thought it was so strange that you can write with a feather and use that different paper. ;)

Mr. Emilio also did a fabulous job spelling "December" for our month and "cloudy" for our weather by using our songs.

We sorted pictures today that began with e or c they are getting really good at figuring out the beginning sounds of words now!

Then we learned that the letter e in the middle of words has a different sound...the short e.

Check this out! Lezlie couldn't find one of her pictures for her independent work, so she figured out that her name had a short e and she decided all by herself that she should write that inside if her web. That's some clever thinking!

During writing, we worked on adding details to our sentences. They were very helpful with suggesting some great words to add to our sentences!

Then we edited our papers with red pens for punctuation and capitalization. Have you noticed that your kiddos are starting to use a lot less capital letters at home? ;)

This afternoon we watched a video on YouTube about the gingerbread man. It was fun getting to sing this classic!

Then we completed our tree map to determine what a gingerbread man is, can do, and has.

After our hard work in writing, we had some fun with weighing different objects in the class. I must say that I want so sure how the kids would do using the balances, but they did a great job and quickly learned how to use them.

When the class got back from PE, they noticed that we had a visitor in our room. They were a little...ummm...upset that SHE wasn't a he and they didn't think that SHE was real. But I told them that she is a school elf and that she has to look different from home elves. ;) Is that convincing enough?!?! Anyway, with that craziness, we didn't get to vote on our elves name. We'll pick out a name for her tomorrow...I can't wait to see what her new name is!

I almost forgot to snap a pick of my PE stars after the elf excitement. So I quickly snapped this pic of Emann holding her card and Adam's card while she was enjoying her candy cane from the elf.

A marvelous Monday

We started off today by celebrating Aubriana's birthday. She did a great job with leading the class in our birthday song since our sound wasn't working on the SmartBoard!

If anyone knows me well, they know that I LOVE to incorporate songs with my teaching...insert Kindergarten has become a PERFECT fit for me! ;) Thanks to Mrs. Hardin, I have now been able to teach the kids how to spell the months through songs. I love how Mr. Zachary (our teacher today) really took his time thinking about the songs to spell December and cloudy!

We're learning the letter Ee this week and have already discovered that it is a complicated letter that comes with many sounds! Avaleigh did a great job with sounding out elephant! She wrote it once but quickly realized that the word had more sounds than she wrote. I'm proud of how the whole class pitched in with the sounds!

Have you heard that we've been spying on Santa and his reindeer? We check in at 10:00 everyday. You can watch it, too, at reindeercam.com. He comes out to feed the reindeer 3 different times throughout the day.

We reviewed what length is this afternoon during math, then we learned about weight. Carrie helped us figure out the difference between heavy and light objects. The kids had some great reasoning as to why they thought something was heavy or light.

Each month we get to highlight the kids that are considered to be "Eagles of Excellence". They all got a pencil and their name is displayed on the wordle board near the Counselor's Cove.

Our Marvelous Music star for today was Emann. Woohoo!
