I hear that question from Mary Elizabeth almost every night. Well, tonight was even more confusing since today is Wednesday! Are y'all as excited as I am about not having to hurry up and get everyone dressed and out the door in the morning, though? The kids weren't quite sure what I meant when I told them that we wouldn't see each other for a few days. It sounds like some of y'all have some fun trips planned for this long weekend...I can't wait to hear about them next week!
Anyhoo...since it was "Friday" for us, it felt like a great day to play beginning sound BINGO! The kids L-O-V-E-D playing and they all did a really great job with it! I can see us playing this much more in our future!
Can you see Nicholas' look of concentration? Priceless!
John was so excited to have BINGO!
I hope y'all have a great looong weekend and travel safe (if you are traveling)! I'll see everyone back at school next Wednesday. We have professional development the next two days, then I'm attending a math training Monday and Tuesday of next week. They will be in great hands with Mrs. Davis again (Adam's mom)!
We've been working on editing sentences lately. Jessica did a great job today of pointing out that a capital letter only belongs to a name of something or the beginning of a sentence.
We had a visit from Justin's dad today. The kids had fun playing the Ten Frame game with Mr. Brandon. Thanks for hanging with us today!
The kids had a "really hard" homework assignment last night...find a rock to bring to school. Ha! We had some great examples to look at today to help us learn about land/rock types. The kids discovered that no rock is the same. They didn't realize that rocks could be sparkly!
I've read a few different books about the election the past two days (duck for President, Grace for President, and My Teacher for President to get the kids excited about the real election. Today the entire school held mock elections. The upper grades voted for our real presidential candidates, while the Kinders voted on Grace, Duck, or their teacher. Among the Kindergarten race, Grace won the election, which means that we now have a female president!
Thank you for having your child dress in Americana attire today to get in the spirit! I just love Emilio's shirt..."Future President"! How cool would that be if that we're true in a few years? I could say that I was his teacher!
PE had to be relocated to our flex space since the flu clinic was in the gym today. So I got to peek on the kids during PE. I wish you could've heard how much fun they were having right outside my door! Did you go vote for real today? I did with my little ones. Benjamin was having fun just trying to say the two names, while Mary Elizabeth was exited about the sticker and refresh, nets being passed out at the church. Mary Elizabeth didn't have to wear a uniform today in honor of Election Day too. I didn't realize until I picked her up that we had "twin legs" according to her. All three of us had to support our country with our colors!
My daughter got to vote at her school today as well. They got to vote for Clifford, the big red dog, or the newbie, Pete the Cat. Her teacher sent this link from Ch. 11 tonight that I thought was too cute not to share!
Whoa, whoa! I can definitely tell that the holiday has arrived! We just got through celebrating Halloween and now we're onto the big turkey day. We were busy today preparing for the Thanksgiving Feast that you're all invited to next Wednesday. I don't want to elaborate too much as I want some of it to be a surprise for y'all.
I did manage to get this pic of Chloe for being our Music Superstar today. I, so proud of her!
Not sure why this is turned, but don't forget that the kids can wear a jersey (or a team shirt) and donate money on Wednesday to support Hurricane Sandy victims.
As I was walking into church this morning, I heard a bunch of cute little voices yelling "Mrs. Dees!" When I figured out where the little voices were coming from, I found my little friend Adam. The Kindergarten choir at our church sang today at "big church", as Mary Elizabeth calls it. Hearing all of those kiddos yell out my name made me feel like a celebrity as I was walking past them. Ha!
Can you recognize the other Eagles in our choir?
They did a great job! It sure is refreshing hearing sweet little voices singing on a Sunday morning! I hope you all had a relaxing weekend with your little ones!
I found this great app from Mrs. Hardin. This can be another great way for all us to hopefully remember different events throughout the year. I'll, of course, always be available via email or phone.
Anew shipment of Scholastic books came in yesterday. The kids and I both get so excited about this because we all get new things! They get new books for their house and I get new books for the classroom. Thank you to everyone that orders books! Remember that you can also purchase electronic games from the Click catalog and ebooks from Storia.
Although it was pretty warm today, signs of Fall are finally starting to show. Yeah! I LOVE Fall! So we went outside today to see how the trees are changing colors. We chose this big tree on our playground to observe as the seasons change through the year.
This afternoon we had a visit from our GT teacher, Mrs. Jenkins. She gave the kiddos animal cards that they used for a guessing game. Look for them in your child's backpack. You can play this guessing game at home with them by giving them clues to eliminate different animals form the pile.
We also had a vibist from Mr. John. He came to watch my class while I went to a very fast meeting. He told them a silly ghost story...look at how glued their eyes are on them! He also taught them the "Name Game" song....pretty stinkin' cute to hear a bunch of Kinders to sing "John, John, Bo, Bon..."!
Mrs. Hardin gave me this cute "Snacktivity " to use with Scrabble Cheezits today. Thanks to Wes' mom for reading my mind and magically sending them for snack this week!
Aaron was really concentrating on spelling with his snack.
Lezlie was so proud of herself when she realized that she spelled "tap".
These cuties earned a free Chick-Fil-A coupon for having perfect attendance (no tardies or absences) the first nine weeks of school. I know that's a hard thing to accomplish with little ones, so I'm really proud of them (and their parents) for meeting this goal! I can't wait to see who gets this award the 2nd nine weeks!
I hope y'all have a fantastic weekend and that everyone gets well! I've missed a lot of my friends this week!
